Have you noticed that suddenly around this time of year it seems that everyone tries for force food on you, you’re surrounded by the stuff?
Unfortunately, from now until after New Year we are at a time when overindulgence is accepted and expected. Rather than give in, and end up gaining 5-10 pounds of fat this season, I want to give you some tips to get you through this minefield.
Stay hydrated. Drink an extra pint or two of water to keep you hydrated. I’m guessing you probably don’t drink enough water anyway but it’s even more important at this time of year. It will curb your appetite and make your skin look better. Try interspersing some glasses of water with the alcohol you drink 1:1 and if you do overindulge it helps the liver detoxify!
If you are going to a party don’t go hungry and arrive there starving. Don’t feel you need to try everything, choose the foods you like the most rather than trying a bit of everything. Having said that try and avoid those foods which are obviously high in calories they are probably the really nice ones! Aim to eat the protein, it’s good for you and curbs the appetite. If you can, say no to puddings. We have a saying in this family (and it wasn’t me that started it) ‘I might want it but do I need it?’
If someone tries to push food onto you tell them ‘I wish I had room but I’m stuffed’ and they will hopefully back off.
Try not to have a succession of late nights. Give your hormones a chance to rebalance.
Plan a New Year detox even if it’s only a break from alcohol.
